This week we will hear from Catherine Tolleson. she is on the executive team of The Bluebonnet Choir.
Samantha Weed and Catherine Tolleson have a high level of education in the art of music and pedagogy. Both former music performance majors met at The Theater Company in Bryan, Texas as complimentary roles of Auntie Em (Samantha) and Dorothy (Catherine) in a production of The Wizard of Oz. They became instant friends and found they both shared the same passion of building musical communities.
After working together in various musical productions at the community theater, Samantha came to Catherine with the idea of building more opportunities for children in our tradition-rich community with a Children's Choir and The Bluebonnet Children's Choir was born. They both cannot wait to see how amazing this program will be.
charity of the month: Bryan ISD Education Foundation
The Bryan ISD Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that raises financial resources to elevate student achievement and support educators across the district.
The Foundation consists of 20 community members who are passionate about expanding the learning opportunities for BISD students by providing teacher grant awards and scholarship opportunities for outgoing seniors. Through the generous giving of local families and businesses, the Education Foundation was able to award over $350,000 in 2023 to teacher and student initiatives.
In addition to teacher grants and scholarships, the Foundation honors former alumni from Bryan ISD whose achievements, strength of character, and citizenship serve as a model to inspire and challenge today’s students. The "Hall of Honor" banquet serves as a fundraiser to further grow the mission of the Education Foundation. The next Hall of Honor is planned for Spring 2025.
