DNA & Geneology

This week's speaker will be Cecily Kelly, who is a professional genealogist. Cecily's will be talking aboutUsing DNA in Genealogy. She will be discussing the advances that have been made in using DNA to trace family history through the genetic research that has made such remarkable advances in the last ten years.

A native of Portland, Oregon, Cecily learned her love of family history listening to her grandparents tell stories of their early lives and ancestors. While growing up in Oregon, Southern California and New Jersey, she frequently found opportunity to further her family history research and has continued her studies throughout her life. She was also fortunate to marry a career Naval Officer whose positions moved the family to many locations where her ancestors had lived making her research more accessible. After a career in social services, Cecily had the opportunity to pursue her life-long love of family history and genealogy research professionally. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and has been helping clients with family research since 2006. She frequently attends national and international genealogical conferences and genealogical institutes, including the Salt Lake Genealogical Institute, the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, and the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. She currently serves as lineage research chair for the Coushatti Trace Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and volunteers in the genealogy room at the Montgomery County Memorial Library in Conroe. Cecily has also taken classes from CeCe Moore, one of the best-known genealogists who frequently appears on the program, "Who Do You Think You Are?"
