Supporting The Rotary Foundation: From Texas to Guatemala - A Rotary District Grant Story
November is Foundation awareness month, and we will start off our program by recognizing 20 new Paul Harris Fellows as we continue to strive to be a 100% Paul Harris Club in support of the good work of The Rotary Foundation.
Following the PHF presentations, Bunny Pratt will share why she supports The Rotary Foundation.
"From Texas to Guatemala-A Rotary District Grant Story"
In January 2020, 17 people, including 4 Bryan Rotarians (J. Paul Teel, Joe Cerami, Maria Small, and Bunny Pratt), traveled from Texas to Guatemala to volunteer with the Habitat Global Village Healthy homes initiative. Families in extreme poverty, defined there as ~$85US month, could apply for the program, pay a small fee, and work alongside volunteers to receive a smokeless stove, latrine, and water purification system. During the trip 14 smokeless stoves were hand-built to support 84+ people. This is a glimpse of the story.
Jennifer Pratt, known as Bunny to her friends and colleagues, joined the Bryan Rotary Club in 2002. She quickly got involved with Club projects and served on the Board of Directors for many years before she was elected to serve as President during the 2010-2011 Rotary Year. Bunny continues to expand her Rotary footprint by serving at the District Level and beyond.
Bunny Pratt is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Rotary Foundation Benefactor, and District Roll of Fame Recipient. Once upon a time she was a wedding coordinator at a Texas winery, but joined the 8-5 world of Health Insurance to gain better control of her work schedule. Bunny enjoys the camaraderie of her Rotarian friends and truly feels she is part of a great big Rotary Family. Her husband, Jason Pratt, is an Honorary Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow. He has been an educator at A&M Consolidated High School, focusing on HIstory, Government and Economics for 20+ years, and serves as the Faculty advisor to the Student Council. They are pet parents with 4 parakeets (Big Bird, Shorty, Luna, & Casper) and an English Bull Terrier named Momo, and they've also hosted 3 Rotary Youth Exchange students.
