In 1993, Gordon and Bettye Logan founded Sport Clips Haircuts which now has over 13,000 employees in 1,900 locations in all 50 states and Canada. They have incorporated values borrowed from famed coach Lou Holtz into the Sport Clips Culture: "Do what's right, do your best, and treat others the way they want to be treated."
 
Gordon served on the board of the International Franchise Association 2013-2019 and currently serves on the IFA Foundation Board. He is a past Chairman of VetFran which works to facilitate veterans becoming franchisees. In 2016, he was the named the IFA Entrepreneur of the Year; he was inducted into the IFA Franchising Hall of Fame in February 2020; and he was awarded the William Rosenberg Leadership Award at the 2022 IFA Annual Conference. He is one of only two people in the history of the IFA who has received all three of the IFA’s top awards. Since 2011. he has served on the VFW Foundation Board, which directs the charitable efforts of the VFW. Sport Clips has raised $13 million for its Help A Hero Scholarship Program for veterans transitioning from military to civilian careers. Sport Clips is a national sponsor of the St.
Baldrick’s Foundation, and has raised $3 million in multiple events over the past few years. Sport Clips is also a primary sponsor of The Aviation Dreams Foundation and several other veterans’ charities. Gordon and Bettye have been recognized by both the Georgetown and Round Rock Chambers of Commerce, the Central Texas YMCA and HillVets (Washington, D.C.) for their philanthropy.
 
Gordon served on the board of ISBN, the trade association for salon chains representing over 15,000 salons, from 2002 to 2014 and served as President from 2008 to 2012. In 2015 he was awarded the ISBN Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015, Gordon was named as an EY Entrepreneur of the Year for Central Texas; that year he was also named the Best Large Company CEO in central Texas and national “Vetrepreneur of the Year”. He has been a member of the Southwest Research Institute Board of Advisors since 2016 and served on the Board of Visitors for Southwestern University from 2010 to 2013. Before he was a salon owner, Gordon served as an Aircraft Commander in the U.S. Air Force (1969-1976), after which he worked as a financial planning and control consultant with Price Waterhouse & Co. in Houston, Texas (1976-1980). He is a graduate of MIT (BS, '68), and The Wharton School of Business, at the University of Pennsylvania (MBA with Honors, '76). He is also a retired CPA in the State of Texas.
