Sister Cities

This week we will be hearing from Karin Loftin from Sister Cities.

Sister Cities Int’l was created at President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 1956 White House conference on citizen diplomacy, where he envisioned an organization that could be a champion for peace and prosperity by fostering bonds between people from different communities around the world. By forming relationships, he reasoned that people of different cultures could celebrate and appreciate their differences and build partnerships that would lessen the chances of new conflicts.

B-CS Sisters Cities was established then, in 1989 to promote cultural understanding, fellowship, and communications between our cities and our first sister city, Kazan, Russia. However, Kazan has been moved to an Emeritus Status, as well as our second Sister City (ZuaZua, Mexico). “We have 4 sister cities at present.  They are: Bastogne, Belgium; Greifswald, Germany, Salamanca, Mexico and Torun, Poland.”

The B-CS Sister Cities Association is affiliated with both the Texas Sister Cities Association and the International Sister Cities Association.
